Two very scary incidents happened recently. My nearly (at the time) one year old had an anaphylactic response to cashews and had to be rushed to the hospital. We administered an epi pen on the way, which prevented a horrible catastrophe. My son choked on an apple and needed the heimlich from his teacher at daycare.
Oddly, because we were not present for the second event and maybe because of the trauma from the first overshadowing most everything, the severity barely registered with me.
Balancing on the knife’s edge is a part of life. The course forward is not to remove challenges, obstacles, or dangers, but rather to try and surround yourself with humanity.
In all communities across the world no matter that community's access to resources, preserving life is innate and, when possible, so is helping individuals excel. In other words, it takes a village. And as my son’s teacher told me, “it takes a village for years and years and years.”
It is so true! We are all intertwined and our success or failures are our collective success or failures.
It is easy to lose sight of that when we are encumbered by the needs of the day and/or the stories in the news. What are the ways we do and can assist one another on the regular?
Within the world of my company and my industry, which can be applied to sales in general, it’s actions that we all know and perform.
Words of encouragement to our colleagues, subordinates, bosses, clients, and referral partners. Do not underestimate how important kind words are to any and all you encounter or how far it can take you.
Lending a helping hand. Whether it is obvious or not, we can all use a bit of assistance now and again.
Saying thank you. No need to explain this one.
Acting on an impulse. I recently offered the use of a desk at our office to someone I had met only the night before at a Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce event. The chance I took on this gentleman kind of blew him away. This is one of the key points to my argument. If you feel in your gut you should do the thing your brain is telling you to do, by all means, do it!
We are all interconnected and reliant on each other for survival and thrival (not an actual word).
