As sales people, we talk a lot about processes and about doing the little things well, knowing that will lead to the success we crave. As individuals looking to be our healthiest selves, again, regular movement and a balanced diet is needed to maintain your level of health. Most have other daily habits that we engage in to feel our best mentally and physically.
For years and years and years, I would have a hard time returning to the land of good habits after a disruption. Good or bad. Recently, my wife and I were blessed with the ultimate disruption. I am using the word ultimate to both mean that a new baby is one of the greatest life changes we ever encounter and to give a nod to the upheaval it causes.
The most important lesson I have learned from having now two babies who need you to be at your best is that a return to the land of good habits does not need to be all or nothing. Start small. Can’t meditate for twenty minutes. Get back to five. Can’t work out for an hour, do twenty. Can’t meet with clients 3x per week, meet once a week. I used to be stuck in this mentality that there was no point to do anything if you couldn’t go full bore. Progress is not linear even when you do have the time and space and mentality to work on yourself day in and day out!
Looking back it is so ridiculous that I would respond to a sprained ankle by not working out for years or wait to send out a mailing until I had the perfect database of recipients. Obviously, there were other more psychological aspects at play, but I can report that I am getting back to the land of good habits more quickly now, which I am sure this little nugget will appreciate later on down the road.
